Alam Mahbub
The Eye
Alam Mahbub

“The task of the eyes is to see,
not to judge what should not be unseen.”
— Hannah Arendt
North or south—
let anyone choose
their direction.
The eye—
let it only see
white as white,
black as black.
When the so-called good
begins to radiate heat
from the surrounding noise,
the wind itself will call—
and pull us forward.
Let mountains of prohibition remain
where they are.
May courage not collapse again
under the weight of rules.
Who measures
against twilight light?
In nights of absolute darkness,
let the sharp eye
seek freedom—
north or south.
