Popular American poet |Alan L Boles Poetry |Modern american poets

Alan L. Boles’s poetry weaves serene imagery and heartfelt emotion into graceful, vivid scenes of nature, love, and reflection. In poems like “Where The Fern Dwells,” he animates the subtle dance of ferns in the afternoon light, morning birds, nectar-hungry wings, and childhood laughter drifting through a autumn air—creating a sensory-rich tableau where the natural world pulses with quiet, erotic longing and spiritual beauty

. In “Meandering Of Time,” Boles meditates on the passage of grief and healing, capturing the ebb and flow of sorrow, shared burdens, and the comfort offered by emotional solidarity: “with love comes tears—not all of joy,” yet in time hearts mend

Across his work, Boles blends a tender, almost devotional tone with natural motifs, fashioning verse that feels both intimate and expansive. Whether exploring love’s transcendent warmth in “The Bliss Our Love Affords” or tracing the spiritual echoes of loss and renewal, his voice remains quietly powerful and deeply evocative .

In just a few lines, Boles can transport readers into world of sensory details and emotional nuance, making his poetry a compelling embrace—gentle yet resonant, rooted in both the corporeal and the soul. Today we will read some of his best poems.

Every Dalliance

“ every dalliance “
I have always found within my old books
many of which I have read over and over
and each time be it the first or the sixth
I have always found something anew.
Some I missed or skipped over
something the author wrote
that did not resonate
within my previous dalliances
line upon line
page upon page
chapter upon chapter.
I knew every contour of her body
my lips have traversed every line
and still I find it all anew.
The last time it was the candle light the way it had
glisten across her breasts that captured my eye.
While this morning it was the early morning light
that chased away the shadows that hid
their beauty as they glisten while we dallianced.
Or from time to time the aroma of her wine
its taste always delicious sometimes sweet
sometimes pale but always a divine pleasure.
But then of course she is
my favorite author
my favorite poetess.
And I have always found
my greatest pleasure be it
within my hand,
within my arms
my one and only true love
as every dalliance is a new one.

No One Else Could Hear

We met through an acquaintance
a Cretan from the age of men
behaving badly
Through poetry and books, it began
a struggle of wills and spirits
tamed but never broken
Kindred lives of dishearted souls
who found peace through times of
silence our thoughts stirred by words
that sang in a language each other’s
soul knew and understood
Our peace found in each others arm
as we listened to a heart that sang
a song no one else could hear

One Single Loving Song

As I held the door for a woman
to enter a stranger to my eyes
with a becoming smile
And in her wake a scent
a beautiful scent that took
my breath away sending
me hurling through a thousand
memories of you and settling
upon one
Of us together my arms and legs
wrapped around you attired
as we always seemed to be
Me lost in your beauty captured by
desire as you recite another poem
the rhythmic flow of words of
our love
our passion
always ending in our being entwined
in each other's arms, your head resting
on my chest as our hearts and breaths
become one single loving song

Poisons of Man

I woke to the sound
of tears echoing
form a downspout
Heard the sobbing
whispering between
the leaves
As I listened in
the stillness
I heard moans
coming from the earth
I walked around
my so called garden
with cup in hand
my toes all wet
From tears of the Angels
who shed their tears
in joy and anguish
The trees were alive
in the deafening sound
of Bees at work
As the shadows
inger in the
dim daylight
The morning air growing sultry
from the lingering embrace
of morning light and late darkness
in their eternal love affair
Slowly at first the leaves
begin to move shaking
of the Angels tears
as the still cool
morning breeze
begins to rise
Shortly the passion
of a lover's breath
will carry through
the day as the
warmth of Summer
will kiss my skin
While within the
lingering shadows
the cooling caresses
fade and my beautiful
Terra cries out in
almost silence from
the poisons of man

A Thousand Times Over

from a challenge on A Poet's Haven
Saturday Night Romance
"Her soul trembled on her lips like a drop of dew on a flower."
- Les Miserables, Victor Hugo

She had away about her
She was born with a gift
And oh could she use it
She commanded attention
Everyone took notice
She was made from Stardust
In a perfect combination
We met before Terra was born
And each time we met again
Her lips will quiver as they have
A thousand times over
When the morning is young
The curtains will be drawn
The doors will be locked
Her mask will come off
Her eyes will water
As the memories flow
And the joy of a love
That can not be ended
As Stars have imploded
And still our love lives
Death has come
A thousand times over
And still her lips quiver
When our eyes cross
The way it did
That very first time
And so it shall
As our souls have
Crossed and shall
Again and again
The love we share
Has sustained us
A thousand times over
