Poems of Famous Bangladeshi Poet Ms. Bandana Amir

"Sorrow"

My sorrows, once molten lava,
Erupted through my eyes, a tearful cascade.
But sorrow's fire, now a hardened stone,
Has ceased its fiery flow, its weeping gone.

The Color of Sorrow

I don't know what color sorrow can be,
Is there anyone out there who can tell me
The shades of its heart-wrenching decree?
A bride whose henna fades from her hand,
And is struck by a loss she can't understand—
Is her sorrow the shade of a somber blue,
Or a murky, gray, hazy hue?
A girl who held the hand of her love,
Dreaming of a life with blessings from above,
But is sold to a brothel, where she is confined,
What color is the torment she feels inside?
Is it a deep, fiery red, or a soft twilight shade?
When a boat sinks at the shore, is its sorrow displayed
As a saffron hue, or the neck of a peacock, so bold?
I don't know the color of sorrows untold,
Nor can I measure their weight,
I don't know if they're born of our own fate,
Or simply the will of destiny's great hand.
Sorrow is everywhere, I clearly see,
The pain of betrayal's sting,
The sorrow of love that took wing,
The hollow nest where you're left to dwell,
The emptiness in a house that looks so well,
The sorrow of broken hopes and cherished things,
The life of compromise that sorrow brings,
The ego's fall, the pain of being lost,
The weary traveler whose path is crossed.
I wish I could gather all these sorrows in a heap,
And mix them with colors, buried so deep,
Hidden from sight, so no one can weep.
